UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

UNFPA strives for a Bangladesh where no woman dies giving life, where people young and old enjoy their reproductive health and rights, and where violence against girls and women is no more. UNFPA has been working in partnership with the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh since 1974, providing technical and advisory services and support. Our main partners are various Government Ministries, the Parliament, United Nations Agencies, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.

UNFPA works in priority districts throughout the country, taking into account the needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized populations, regions that face challenges in achieving development goals, and areas most affected by natural disasters.

The 9th Country Programme to be implemented in Bangladesh from 2017-2020 will assist Bangladesh in the areas of:

• Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights focusing specifically on skilled birth attendance, emergency obstetric and neonatal care, family planning and maternal morbidities;
• Adolescents and Youth focusing on ending child marriage, comprehensive sexuality education and life skills and access to sexual and reproductive health information and services;
• Gender equality and prevention of Gender-based violence (GBV) focusing on changing harmful gender norms and building the capacities of national institutions to prevent and address GBV;
• Placing people at the centre of developing applying data to drive policies, budgeting and programming.
