Total 61 Scheduled Bank of Bangladesh has been operating financial operations in Bangladesh. Those banks are established to meet up the different types of demands of the people of Bangladesh. All Scheduled commercial banks are licensed under the Bank Company Act, 1991 (Amended up to 2013). After the 1980's banking industry of Bangladesh reached significant enlargement with the entrance of private banks. 5 Non-Scheduled Bank has been functioning in Bangladesh to provide specialized service among the people of the country.
Note that, the banking sector of Bangladesh was started with only 6 nationalized banks, 3 state-owned banks and 9 international banks branches. By the half-century, Bangladesh has achieved remarkable growth in the financial sector also domestic growth.
Currently, two types of banks are working in Bangladesh which were formed as per the Bangladesh Bank order one is focusing on conventional banking law and another founded followed Islami Shairah law and ethics. In Addition, 34 Non-bank financial institute operating activities in Bangladesh to accelerate the country's economic growth to become a developed country by 2041 according to the vision of Bangladesh.
At Present total of 43 private commercial scheduled banks in Bangladesh are in operation under the supervision of Bangladesh bank. These Banks are registered with a capital market of Bangladesh (Stock Market of Bangladesh). That means there is a public limited company. They are majorly owned by private entities and classified into two types.
In total 33 conventional private commercial scheduled banks of Bangladesh are now operating in the industry. They perform the banking functions in conventional fashion like interest-based operations and trading. Here we mentioned the list of commercial Banks below:
There is 10 Islami Shariah-based private commercial scheduled bank of Bangladesh. Islami banks have operated the banking services and activities according to Islami Shariah-based principles and law. All other services of Islami as like conventional banking. They also provide various types of savings schemes and loan schemes for entrepreneurs. The government of Bangladesh has 06(six) commercial Bank which also called as state-owned bank. 9 (Nine) Foreign Commercial Bank has been operating services in Bangladesh. These 9 Foreign Commercial Bank are operating in Bangladesh as the branches of the banks which are incorporated abroad, but they maintain the policy of Bangladesh bank and International money regulator.
Corporate Banking Services: scheduled bank is working to organize idle money from the market and invest that fund in the industrial sector to accelerate economy of the country.
SME Banking Service: Commercial Bank plays a vigorous role to develop the country’s small and medium enterprise to accelerate the economic growth of the Bangladesh. The Bank has designed training program and invests money in prospective small entrepreneur.
Retail banking services: Scheduled Bank of Bangladesh vastly provides retail banking services for individual peoples for collecting fast and engaging citizen with the mainstream economy of the country.
Non-scheduled banks are licensed only for specific functions and objectives, and do not offer the same range of services as scheduled banks. There are now 5 non-scheduled banks in Bangladesh.
